Google Docs Access & Sharing

If you create/upload any documents through Skylight, they'll be listed and visible to your other staff, but they will be "owned" by you as far as Google is concerned, so only you will be able to view/edit them unless you change the sharing options using Google's sharing controls.

To access the sharing controls, view your Google Document and click the "Share" button at the top-right of the Google window. Each document can be in one of several sharing modes:

google_sharing_options.png

  • Public on the web (Anyone on the Internet can find and access. No sign-in required.)
  • Anyone with the link (Anyone who has the link can access. No sign-in required.)

  • {Your Company} (People at {Your Company} can find and access.)

  • People at {Your Company} with the link (People at {Your Company} who have the link can access.)

  • Private (Only people explicitly granted permission can access. Sign-in required.)

If you leave the document in the default "Private" mode, you will need to invite people individually to view/edit the document.

If your whole company is signed up with "Google Apps For Your Domain" (we recommend this for the best experience), then you should pick the third or fourth option.

If you don't have "Google Apps for your Domain" and you just want to try documents out, then pick the first or second option. The second option will require people to at least be singed in to Google with a personal account to be able to view the document, and the first will make it fully public so not even a google account is necessary. These options are insecure though, so not a good idea for everyday real use.
